Business Law
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (August, 1992)
Average review score:

Excellent book for any purpose
Great prep material for the CLEP, although it doesn't have a sample test in it, so it is useful to buy, for instance, Mr. Orr's book along with it. I did that, read both (only the relevant sections from Barron) and got a 68. Also great as later reference!

A must for the Business Law I CLEP and beyond
This is an outstanding resource if you plan to CLEP Introductory Business Law. It's organized, easy to read and encapsulates what you need to know in easy to understand language. If you're taking Business Law II, it makes an invaluable reference. I passed the Intro to Business Law CLEP with a 60, using this book, and "Essentials to Business Law I" which was bundled with it. If you're serious about passing the CLEP and you don't want to invest a ton of money in a book to prepare for it, this one is worth its weight in gold! I give it 5 stars!

Great desk reference AND worked for CLEP and Dantes exams!
I bought this book to study for the CLEP Business Law I exam. I realized I could also use it for the Dantes Business Law II exam. I passed both, and am keeping it for a handy desk reference.

Nicely organized, good examples, and easy to read.

Cajun-Creole Cooking
Published in Paperback by Ballantine Books (January, 1989)

Simply: The Best Book on Cajun-Creole, period.
My girlfriend gave me this book when we started dating. It was the first cookbook I ever owned, I had no idea what a gem it was. Since then my mother gave me all her Cajun-Creole books (about 25 in all), books signed by Emeril and Paul Prudhomme, none compare, this is without a doubt my favorite.

Everyone lays claim to 'authentic' Cajun-Creole recipes, recipes need to have this ingredient or that or else they're not Cajun-Creole. If there were such a standard (there isn't), then this book would have to serve as the measure.

My wife often suggests that giving me this book helped convince me to marry her ;-)

The bread recipe is worth every penny!
This is a wonderful book, filled with tasty, authentic recipes and history. The New Orleans French Loaves are the easiest, tastiest bread I've ever made. This book is a treasure.

Simply a superb book!
No other Cajun recipe book compares to this one. I wanted Grandma's recipes, and now I have 'em! The Jambalaya and Fricassee recipe's are famous at my house.

The Cat Who Turned on and Off (Nightingale Series G K Hall Large Print Book Series)
Published in Paperback by G K Hall & Co (May, 1992)
Author: Lilian Jackson Braun
Average review score:

Boringgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg............
This book was the worst one ever written. If you thought that the person was posed with cats you'll hate this person even more. She should get a life and not spend her time writting kiddie books about cats.

The Third Koko Book - Adventure at Junktown
This is the third book in "The Cat Who..." Series. This is also the first story of the complete family (Qwilleran, Koko and Yum Yum).

Qwilleran visits Junktown, expecting it to be a hangout of junkies (drug addicts). But Junktown is a place for junk (antique) shops! First modern art, second interior decorating and this time...antique. Poor Qwill.

This book is a little different from the previous two books. The previous books described prosperous, privileged worlds. While Junktown is an old deserted town which the City regards as a slum and wants to demolish. It makes this book somewhat deeper than the previous books how Qwill gradually loves this poor old town. And this book is relatively well-plotted as a detective story.

Unlike Koko, Yum Yum doesn't play a role as a sleuth. When it hails noisily, Yum Yum gets scared and hides herself, while Koko investigates the noise. It is interesting that such kind of small daily details show Koko's sleuth talent more clearly. And I'm quite surprised at what Koko turns on and off...it's just incredible!

Welcome to Junktown
While the publisher list this as the fourth novel in this series, Amazon is correct in labeling it as the third, preceding 'The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern.' This is a minor irritant, but interferes not at all with the story line. Perfectionists should beware, however. Other than that, it is a repeat of Braun's usual approach in these early stories, finding Qwilleran once again moving, once again turning a mild assignment into a crime investigation and once again being outthought by his cats.

The occasion for the move is a reporter's contest at the Daily Fluxion that will pay the winner [amt]. Qwill decides to write a story about Junktown, a rundown part of the city, that is filled with countless, equally rundown antique and junk stores, a Mecca for those who like their collectibles 'in the rough.' Without fail Qwill immediately finds a new home, a strange little apartment in The Junkery, the store, home, and boarding house of Iris and C.C. Cobb.

It will not surprise the reader to discover that the apartment was originally the residence of Andrew Glanz, a dealer who recently died in a gruesome accident, falling off a ladder onto an old brass finial in his store. Nor should it surprise the reader when Qwill decides to investigate the suspicious death, possibly motivated by the lovely Mary Duckworth, Andrew's lady friend and, hopefully, Qwill's date to the Fluxion's Christmas party.

The further into Glanz's death Qwill probes, the more suspicious it looks. Even worse, another 'accidental' death occurs, that of C.C. Cobb. Qwill carries Koko around investigating and the two cats pull off many antics on their own. And there is much to be discovered. How did Glanz really fall on the finial? Who was with C.C. when he fell? Where is the missing manuscript? Who is Mathilda the ghost? And where do Koko and Yum Yum keep disappearing to?

Qwill is unable to escape exposure to both the shady and bright side of antiquing as he finds himself working a store counter and sneaking into a condemning building looking for valuables. He barely manages to survive several of his own accidents, and for a time he is baffled. As usual the Koko and Yum Yum save the day, not only switching lights on and off, but learning to type and flush toilets as well. Team Meow once again goes into action to expose nefarious doings and bring evildoers to justice.

As always, Lilian Braun's characters and gentle satire are delightful. She seems to write with considerable knowledge of the antique trade, even managing to predict the future of collecting when she introduces the idea of tech-tiques several years before the craze took off. While she often uses similar plot gimmicks from novel to novel, Braun always manages to give everything a unique twist that makes her eminently readable.

A Really Good Book
I thought this was a really good book. I learned a lot about what life was like for Black people 50 years ago.It was really hard. They couldn't go to school or become doctors . When they were sick they couldn't go to hospitals. I didn't know about blood types until I read this book.

Every Young Man in America Needs To Read This Book!
This is the kind of book that should be in the hands of every young man in America. Drew overcame the odds and didn't complain. He just did it and lives were saved. My wife bought several copies of this book and gave it to all the boys in our son's scout troop.

My Science Club Loved This Book
My science club read this last week. I was surprised at how primitive medicine was just a few short years ago.

Reading about Dr. Drew and all the challenges he had to face made me more determined than ever to become a doctor.

Cinnamon Bear (5 cassettes)

Long Lost Family Tradition
Wow! What a joy to know they are still selling these tapes! My sister and I grew up in a household where we played the Cinnamon Bear every year. My sister had a baby last year, and my father really wanted to start playing the tapes for the new grandbaby this year. Unfortunately, the tapes must have gotten lost in the last house move. I know my father will be thrilled to get the tapes this year as an early Christmas gift! Let the Christmas tradition continue!

He is our favorite - I am much oblige to you!
This is our family favorite we even listen to it in the summer! I am 33 yrs old and my father MADE me listen to this on KEX radio when I was little. I just could not stand to hear it then it made me miserable. My things have changed. I bought this gift set for my dad for his birthday because he always said he missed it during the holidays because it has been discontinued. I have a 5 year old daughter who we introducted this to last Christmas. Her being more intellectual than myself just loves it! My husband cannot stand the music. The sound effects crack me up but my daughter just thinks it is the living end. We are planning on getting a reproduction old time radio with a tape player and I cannot wait to hear this on the old time radio. If you dont like this radio show at first it will grow on you. Start it out after Thanksgiving and listen to one everynight. It will get you in the spirit. I wish they had a Cinnamon stuffed bear I could buy my daughter. I like it because you have to use your imagination and things are not just presented to you like on the TV. I highly recommend it especially for people over 55 and little kids!

The Cinnamon Bear
I first heard the adventures of The Cinnamon Bear and twins, Judy and Jimmy on the radio back in the l940's and remember the excitment I felt in anticipation of each days episode where they were in search of the silver star. The magical happenings, and many unforgetable Maybeland characters make this a cherished childrens story.

Shortly after Thanksgiving I share the story with my grandchildren, playing one episode each day (over the phone) and in addition to the silver stars they have each found in their Christmas stockings, I am sure they have a happy memory of a special story.

Colorado Collage is THE best
This is the very best cookbook I own. My family has just loved every recipe we've tried. The instructions are great, and the recipes even better. A must have for your cookbook collection.

This is the cookbook we use over and over again.
This is the third time I have purchased this book for a friend. I actually borrowed my copy from my mother and she had to replace it because I just kept using it. The recipes are very creative and easy to follow. We have yet to make something that did not turn out. It is a must for entertaining. You won't be disappointed if you purchase this cookbook.

My favorite cookbook!
I bought this cookbook over five years ago, at the suggestion of a friend from Colorado (I live in Virginia). And although I have bought many more cookbooks since, I keep returning to the Colorado Collage. I have enjoyed and received many compliments on all the recipes I have tried from this book. The book has many positive points. First, the recipes are not difficult and the ingredients are not obscure. So, if you want to use this book to challenge yourself to see if you are the next Julia Child, then I would not bother. These are as close as you can get to no-fail/delicious recipes. Second, the book is very diverse and incorporates the fusion style. It presents standard fare with international flare. All the recipes are modern and exciting--no tuna molds from the 70's. Third, the book is great for entertaining because many recipes are easily doubled and tripled. Great appetizer section (alltime favorite ap, handsdown,--prosciutto wagonwheels). Fourth, the book gives generally healthy recipes--a few cream dishes, but not many. Fifth, the book has given me courage to explore and diverge from the strict letter of the recipe. The recipes are so good and basic, that even my occasional digressions have not ruined them. As stated by another reader, it's a great book for everyday and for special occasions. If I had to pick only one cookbook to own, this would be it.

Capone: The Life and World of Al Capone
Published in Paperback by DaCapo Press (December, 1992)
Author: John Kobler
Average review score:

THIS BOOK WAS GREAT!!!!!
THIS BOOK WAS GREAT!!!!!
John Kobler did an excelent job with this one. The title, The Life and World Of Al Capone, really sums it up. Not only was this an extremely accurate factual book, but also was greatly engaging. I am a big fan of Capone books and have read quite a few, but this was easily the best one that I've read. This book includes minute details on Capones life and "business" as well as the long list of dives, hot spots, and other gangsters all inhabiting Chicago.

I found no flaw in the writing of this book and thought it was marvelously written. I can't begin to tell you how great of a book this was. At different points it transformed me into a Chicago citizen reading the newspaper, to a young hoodlum in the gang, to an inmate at Alcatraz. The only thing I was disappointed with was that it went by to fast! You must read this book!

The definitive Capone
If you're looking for a complete picture of America's most notorious mobster, this is it. This is the definitive biography, a well-rounded study that brings Big Al into three-dimensional focus, something Schonberg only elaborated on and Bergreen failed completely at. The best book ever on the life, times and career of the father of syndicated crime.

Big Al was the MAN!
This book is excellent! There aren't enough words in English to discribe this man! This book gives great insight into what really went on in Al Capone's life and his gang--RUTHLESS with TASTE! Just wish it were a lot longer.

Charlie Parker Played Be Bop

Author: Chris Raschka

My musical 2 year old loves it!
I saw this book on "Between the Lions" and I loved it, so I bought it. I figured my daughter (then about 18 months) wouldn't have any interest, but I'd keep it until she got older. Boy, was I wrong. She loves it. She loves looking at it by herself and she loves us to read it to her. I'm not a major jazz fan, but the book is impossible to read without feeling the rhythm. The illustrations are fun and the cat looks just like ours!

First book my son read and read and read...
Picked this book up at the Library after it was featured on PBS's Between The Lions. My son never put the book down, so we bought it. The book is fun, easy to read for children, and the pictures are great. Both my boys have it memorized and read it often.

whimsical and delicious
No doubt about it. A classic that has my three year old now in love with be bop. Beautiful, whimsical paintings and delicious text! A great alternative to usual kid book drivel and TV engineered pap like authur, bernstien bears and disney stuff. Looking for children's literature. You found it.

Charleston Style: Past and Present
Published in Hardcover by Rizzoli (May, 1999)
Authors: Susan Sully, John Blais, and Josephine Humphreys
Average review score:

Rekindles Fond Memories
Susan Sully's book revived many delightful memories of my recent visit to Charleston. Her evocative prose paired with the beautiful photographs made as much of an impression on me as seeing Charleston's gracious architecture in person. It's not often that such a pretty book is also so well written, but Sully' elegant, beautifully crafted sentences do justice to the photos and the grand old homes themselves. After reading her book I wanted to book a flight back for another visit!

Charleston Captured Splendidly!
Susan Sully's Charleston Style splendidly captures the unique beauty of my city. Sully's writing is gorgeous, lush and evocative as many of the homes she shows us. Her thorough research is obvious; then she takes the facts and, with words, weaves a beautifiul gossamer fabric representing one ofAmerica's most beloved cities. As a Charlestonian, I was introduced to places I never knew existed. The detailed photographs, artistic and architectural, complement the text. I bought numerous copies to give to friends who have visited Charleston in reality or in their dreams.

finally, a beautiful book with an intelligent read!
Just named one of the ten best books of 1999 about South Carolina by "The Nation," this winner rises above the usual book of stunning photography in the quality of Sully's writing. Her thoughtful and incisive reflections upon a complex city are rendered in delightful, sensual, intelligent prose. All this is compellingly presented in a classic coffee-table stand-out!
